What it checks
A profile is written for one language (French subtitles for a French channel, English SDH for the BBC…). A file in another language is probably the wrong file for this destination.
How it is measured
CueNorm compares the language of the subtitles — declared by the file (EBU-STL language code, TTML xml:lang) or stated by you (--source-language, the language given at import) — with the profile's language. Regional variants are compatible when one side has no region (fr fits fr-CA), not when both differ (fr-FR does not fit fr-CA). Nothing is reported when either language is unknown: SRT, ASS and WebVTT files do not declare one.
When it applies
Always, for every profile with a language, on the file you submit (never on a file CueNorm generated, which carries the profile's language by construction). It is a warning and never blocks.
Example
A Polish EBU-STL file (language code 20) validated against bbc-subtitle-en-gb-ebustl is reported as The subtitles are in "pl" but profile "bbc-subtitle-en-gb-ebustl" expects "en-GB".
How to fix
- Check that you picked the right file, or the profile for its language.
- If the file declares a wrong language, state the right one (
--source-language, or the language at import).
